The Economics of Dental Care Utilization $134.33 Dental Care Utilization can be classified as one of three types of treatments administered by a dentist: Restorative, Preventative, and Cosmetic Care. In a Ph.D. Dissertation from the University of Kentucky, the author explores the simultaneous choice between these three types of care using a Multivariate Probit Model using the GHK Simulator and Numeric Integration. Data for the research were from the National Medical Expenditure Survey of 1987 which samples households in the United States. The dataset includes information regarding demographic, socioeconomic and medical expenses on a daily basis for the calandar year 1987, which were aggregated to quarterly utilization measurements. Simultaneous probit models reveal interesting patterns of utilization. One finding regarding preventative care is that consumption of preventative care in the current period would be associated with a significantly lower utilization of both Restorative and Cosmetic care in the next period. Another interesting finding is that Restorative and Cosmetic care are substitutes for each other. Cosmetic care might be a luxury good relative to Restorative care. The consequences are well-known gums retreat teeth become loose and fall out or have to be extracted. Plaque bacteria may also spread throughout the whole body and threaten general health. Integration of Medical and Dental Care and Patient Data $79.95 This book informs readers of the needs and rationale for the integration of medical and dental care information with an international perspective as to how and where medical and dental care separated into specific domains. It provides high level guidance on issues involved with care and data integration and how to achieve an integrated model of health care supported by integrated HIT. A patient typically expects that a visit to a dentist can usually be resolved immediately. This expectation places a premium on instant, accurate, thorough, and current information. The state-of-the-art of fully integrated (dental-medical) electronic health record (EHR) is covered and this is contrasted with the current state of dental-medical software. While dentists in the US Veterans Health Administration (VHA), the US Indian Health Service (IHS), or the US military, for example, have access to fully integrated health records, most US clinicians still gather information from separate sources via fax or phone calls. The authors provide an in-depth discussion of the role of informatics and information science in the articulation of medical and dental practices and clinical data with the focus on applied clinical informatics to improve quality of care, practice efficiency, coordination and continuity of care, communication between physicians and dentists and to provide a more comprehensive care for the patients. Lastly, the book examines advances in medical and dental research and how these may affect dentistry in the future. Most new advances in healthcare research are information-intensive. |

Dental Practice: Debt Collection Agency Can Strengthen Income by Luke McCann
One of the most frustrating hurdles a dental office can face is collecting payments from delayed patients. Most patients know very little concerning the dental program they have with their employer. For many dental patients, they will likely hand over the info to a front desk employee and just trust that all will be taken care of. Thankfully, this particular "hope and pray" approach usually works for many of us. This is to the benefit for both the dentist office and the patient. However, what happens when costs exceed the covered amount of money on their dental insurance program? The plan may not cover all of the obligations and the patient is left to pay the remainder of the balance. Sometimes can easily come to be a surprise and the patient may not be ready to pay for at that time.
When dealing with this kind of frequent circumstance above, dental offices are running potential risk of getting rid of a patient forever. A number of men and women will value paying future months rent over the possible damage of what an delinquent dental bill are capable of doing for their credit history. In other instances, individuals do feel the sincere duty to repay the bill, but are in such a financial situation that they cannot afford to pay off the entire amount upfront. If the dental office is unable to work out a payment plan, the balance will fall delinquent and in many cases, will never be brought back. This affects everyone involved because doing so raises the cost of business for the dentist office, which in return forces them to raise prices on the other paying individuals to try to cover a lot of the loss. Fortunately, the dentist office has options in attempting to obtain payment from the delinquent individual.
The first recommendation is to contact the individual by phone or send a late notice to the residents of the individual. If after weeks you haven't been able to reach the individual, it could mean that either the patient has moved away or perhaps is avoiding the collection efforts for various reasons. This is the scenario when it makes the most sense to hire an experienced debt collection agency to attempt to secure repayment on the delinquent bill. Hiring collection agencies have quite a few rewarding advantages. The collection agency will have resources such as skip tracking tools to find the patient that they will use to obtain alternate cell phone numbers. After reaching the patient, the collection agency can secure payment quickly and professionally by treating the patient with respect to ensure the relationship isn't ruined between patient and dentist office, this is very important.
No one ever desires to deal with over due collections, especially an office worker who may later have to see the patient face to face in the dental office. This will make for very uncomfortable encounters for both parties and you do not want to humiliate your patients. Hiring a third party collection agency will help avoid this problem, boost employee morale, and most importantly help boost the net profit for the practice.
